Can I set parental control at my Wi-Fi connection?

It’s been a while since I write the stories. Something happened in September and suddenly I had to go for semi-emergency surgeries.

Now I am in the midst of recovering.

My country is now under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO). Schools are closed and adults are required to work from home especially office-bound executives.

So my husband, myself, all my four children are confined to our home at all times.:(

Hubby was complaining that the internet speed was so slow. I admitted that and requested to upgrade the Internet package.

So the internet service provider came and installed a new router for our upgraded Internet connections.

As usual, being a techy lady, I would like to check what settings or default setting the installer did for me. By the way, my new router is a D-Link DLR-842 model.

When I log into the new router, I found new settings. Previously my old router doesn’t have this.

I recalled one of my subscribers asking how to secure the wifi connection to avoid children to watch sexual related contents.

So here it is.

D-LINK DLR-842 Connected Clients

Click on the Connected Clients icon to view details about the router and its wireless settings.

On this page, you can see all the clients currently connected to the router, and their IP addresses.

To edit each client’s settings, click the pencil icon on the client you want to edit.

D-LINK DLR-842 Parental Control

If enabled, parental control will completely disable all network activity on the client according to a custom schedule. A drop-down menu will appear; select the time schedule during which parental control will take effect.

On top of it, you can use web filtering to block certain sites that your child visited.

D-LINK DLR-842 Website Filter

If you want to create a list of sites to block, select DENY computers access to ONLY these sites from the drop-down menu. All other sites will be accessible.

If you want to specify a list of sites to allow, select ALLOW computers access to ONLY these sites from the drop-down menu. All other sites will be blocked.

However, bear in mind, if you do that website filtering, these access restrictions also apply to you.

Hope this helps.
